Geology is a field-oriented profession, thus many of our courses require field trips to locations of significant geologic importance, or are actually taught in the field. Examples of trips include studies of the structural geology and stratigraphy of Pennsylvania and Virginia, the mineralogy and petrology of North Carolina, as well as landslides, caves, arches and glacial features of Kentucky. Summer field courses include trips to places like Colorado, Utah and Belize.
Students that are interested in an internship or coop position with local or abroad companies should visit the located in University Center room 230 for details and assistance. Their services extend beyond just listing companies. They offer resume building help, interview coaching and career planning. The CDC is a great place to explore job opportunities for both during and after your undergraduate study.
Also a shared cooperative education program with the University of Kentucky is available. The enrolled student works full-time and enrolls full-time in classes during alternate semesters. This allows the co-op student to "learn while they earn; earn while they learn."
