Beaver Figurine
The tail of the figure features a ‘crisscross’ design, adding detail to the figure. Santa Clara is known for its animal figurines and black-polished pottery. The figure gets its black color, typical of Santa Clara pottery, by smothering the fire with horse manure. The thick, black, carbon-rich smoke gives the pottery its distinctive black color.
